Trim Shapes
Use the Trim Shapes tool to cut line segments back to the next place they intersect with another line.
If a shape does not intersect with any other lines, Trim Shapes deletes the entire shape.
Using Trim Shapes
To enable Trim Shapes, click the scissor icon in the Tools Toolbar or press Ctrl/Cmd+K.
After enabling Trim Shapes, hover over any vector object in your Workspace to see a preview of the effect Trim Shapes will have on that object.
-
When you hover over a valid line segment, the cursor will change to the scissor icon, and the segment that would be deleted will turn red.
-
Click to delete the segment.
Primary Shapes
This feature works with Primary Shapes, but will remove the ability to edit their special Shape Properties, as they are Converted to Paths in the process.
If you hover over a shape that does not intersect with any other lines, the entire shape will be highlighted in red, and deleted when you click.
Auto-Joining With Trim Shapes
When possible, Trim Shapes joins the new vector objects at the points where they used to intersect, combining them into a single path.
When a shape has been joined with another, it will automatically be selected, and you'll see the animated dash pattern that indicates selected objects.
Note
Hold Ctrl / Cmd while clicking to disable automatic joining when using Trim Shapes.
Troubleshooting
- Trim Shapes does not work on Grouped objects — you'll need to Ungroup them first.
